ARCHIVED NEWS:
March 2017:
U of T News is featuring a nice story about the critical role that undergraduate research assistants play in our research at the Canine Cognition Lab.
January 2017:
Our recent research on capuchin monkeys' intuitive understanding of probability has been featured in U of T News and on the CBC website!
December 2016:
I'm excited to say that In March 2017 I will be starting a new Research Associate position at Cardiff University, where I will be working with Marc Buehner, Teresa McCormack, David Lagnado and Christoph Hoerl on a interdisciplinary Leverhulme-funded project investigating time and causality in cognitive development. I'm looking forward to the new challenge, but first, lots of wrapping-up of projects to do here in Toronto -- it's going to be a hectic couple of months!
November 2016:
I enjoyed visiting the University of Waterloo to give a talk at the Department of Psychology's developmental seminar series. I talked about our comparative causal imitation work (which of course involved showing lots of cute capuchin and dog videos!) Got some really interesting questions and feedback. Thanks to Steph Denison for the invitation!
October 2016:
Our new paper (with Steph Denison, Emily Messer and Daphna Buchsbaum) on capuchin monkeys' probabilistic inference abilities has been accepted for publication in Animal Cognition (see 'Publications' tab). Hooray!
The Canine Cognition Lab at U of T now has a Facebook page! Check it out for updates on our research and lots of cute pics of our doggy participants :)
August 2016:
Another lovely Toronto dog owner and trainer Monisa Nandi who participated in several of our studies with her pooch has written a blog post about their experience! Check it out here (there are videos!)
I went to the joint meeting of IPS and ASP in the fine city of Chicago to present our work on the influence of intentionality and causal plausibility on the copying behaviour of children and capuchin monkeys. It was wonderful to catch up with lots of primate-y friends and hear about a ton of recent primate research.
July 2016:
We ventured out of the big city to run some Canine Cognition Lab studies at Good As Gold K9 School which was a great success -- more over on the blog!
May 2016:
We have now tested our 100th dog in the U of T Canine Cognition Lab! It's been a really productive first 10 months; many thanks to all the fantastic owners who have volunteered their dogs so far!
April 2016:
I recently had the pleasure of talking to Dave Brodbeck for his awesome animal cognition podcast Spit and Twitches. It was a lot of fun; you can listen to our conversation here.
Myself and Daphna will be presenting research out of the U of T Canine Cognition Lab for the first time at the Conference on Comparative Cognition in Melbourne, Florida. Looking forward to seeing what people think and meeting some fellow dog researchers.
Our canine cognition studies are featured on Verena Schleich's blog -- she is a dog trainer at When Hounds Fly where we are currently running some of our studies and she participated in our research with her lovely doberman Athena. Check out what she had to say!
Excited to be running 4 Sunday sessions of canine cognition studies at When Hounds Fly, Toronto in April/May -- more over on the blog!
July 2015:
We will be spending 3 Saturdays in July running some of our canine cognition studies at All About Dogs Toronto - check out my blog for more info and fun photos of dog research in action!
June 2015:
Mon 8th: Delighted that our abstract on probabilistic reasoning in capuchin monkeys has been accepted for a talk at CDS2015 in October!
Tues 2nd: It was great to run the first participant in our toddler causal imitation study in the lab today! Super interested to see how 18-30 month olds will compare with the 3-5 year olds (and the capuchins!)
May 2015:
On Sun 25th May CoCoDev Lab will be visiting All About Dogs Toronto to chat to dog owners about canine cognition research
